Forklift truck – why is it called that?
The name forklift comes from the German word “stapel”, which means cargo arranged in layers. In our country, this term is used in relation to the method of storing lumber in sawmills. In the past, in ports, “stacks” were piles of cargo arranged in segments. Prototypes of later forklifts were used to transport them.
Nowadays, both names are used interchangeably. Forklift trucks used
in ports do not differ in any way from those that can be found in many workplaces.
