Electric forklift inspections – three basic types
Forklifts must undergo three types of inspections:
– daily – performed by each forklift operator, both before starting work on it and after finishing the day. This allows for quick response to any irregularities, as well as refueling;
– maintenance – these are performed not by operators, but by forklift maintenance technicians with special qualifications. Each forklift manufacturer provides certain guidelines on how often such an inspection should be performed, but it is also defined by law. Polish regulations state that for forklifts under full technical supervision, it should be done every 30 days, and for forklifts under limited supervision – every 60 days;
– periodic – this is an inspection performed once a year (for forklifts under full supervision) by officials from the Technical Supervision Office, who check not only the condition of the forklift, but also its documentation and can withdraw equipment from use if it poses a safety threat.
Additional inspections are also required, independent of the previously mentioned schedules, if the forklift has experienced a breakdown.
Electric forklift service – how often to perform it?
The frequency of maintenance services depends primarily on what type of electric forklift we are dealing with. The previously mentioned full technical supervision, i.e., service every 30 days applies to:
– forklifts with mechanical lifting drive, equipped with a seat or platform for the operator,
– forklifts that lift the operating person together with the load,
– forklifts with boom.
Service every 60 days applies to mobile lifting trucks with mechanical lifting drive, both those remotely controlled from outside the vehicle and those that are guided.
