What is worth knowing about forklift heaters?

Forklift operators should feel comfortable while operating the equipment so that their work is effective and efficient. In winter, it may be necessary to heat the cabin. Forklift heaters will make this possible. Their selection is most often dependent on the heat energy source that will be used to power them. What is worth knowing about individual types?

Electric heaters

Electric heaters are equipped with PTC resistance heaters and can be used for various vehicles. This solution is elegant, and its installation is easy. However, their application is limited due to available electrical power. This option may therefore not work, for example, in delivery vehicles. Fortunately, this is not an obstacle in forklifts, where the voltage is 48V or even 80V, and the fan is controlled by 12V, 24V voltage or the same as the heating element. Universal electric heaters and those specially designed for forklifts are available.

Water heaters with fans

Water heaters with 12V or 24V fans are a convenient and economical solution. They have high power in relation to external dimensions, and their price is relatively low. They are also lightweight and have a long blowing range. Generally, the offer of water heaters is the widest due to the popularity of this solution. This type of heater is also used in various vehicles. In addition to forklifts, they can be found in construction machinery, delivery vehicles, as well as ships and boats. It is worth remembering the limitation in their use created by the thermal power that the engine can take from the coolant. If the ambient temperature is low, the engine takes a long time to warm up, and the power dissipated by the cooling system is small. High heater power therefore has no chance of effective use, and intensive engine cooling will additionally lead to excessive fuel consumption. The use of additional water combustion heating that warms the engine before starting can help. However, this problem most often concerns specialized vehicles.

Other elements for heating and air conditioning of forklifts

To ensure the appropriate temperature in the forklift cabin, it can be equipped with a complete system or individual elements for heating and air conditioning. Air conditioning systems consist of individually selected elements such as evaporators, condensers, fans, compressors, dryers, sensors and others. Air distribution systems and arrangements are also useful. Among specific elements related to heating, air conditioning and ventilation, heating control valves, fan switches and control levers can be mentioned.

Summary

Operating a forklift in winter can be uncomfortable if the cabin is not equipped with a heating source. A forklift heater comes to the rescue. Among this type of elements, electric and water models are mentioned, universal or dedicated to forklifts.
