Forklift Snow Plow – Attachment Group
Today’s snow plows are available in various shapes and sizes to match different needs and budgets. You’ll find options whether you need to plow a driveway or clear parking spaces for your customers. If you live in a place where snowfall is normal, know that you can put away the shovel forever and use better equipment that will help save you time and back pain.
How does a forklift snow plow work?
A snow plow is an attachment that is typically mounted to the front of a vehicle to remove snow and ice. Plows are usually attached to trucks, loaders, or cars. These vehicles are durable and strong enough to bear the weight of the plow and push snow. It also happens that warehouses where many people work need a tool to clear snow from parking lots or driveways. That’s why something like a forklift snow plow was created. Plows are available in many shapes and sizes, and their job is to scrape and push snow to the side to clear the road. The operator controls the plow from inside the cabin using levers or a controller. Plows are often used in combination with salt spreaders, though they can be used independently. Chemical de-icing agents can be applied first to loosen packed snow and make the work easier.
Types of plows
Manufacturers produce a wide range of plows for different needs and applications. For example, a dump truck used to clear highways will need a plow that is wide enough to handle that task.
- Front plows: Front plows are the most common type of plow. Front plows come in many varieties, such as reversible plow, straight, or V-plow. Reversible plows move snow left or right. V-plows are designed to handle deep snow and push it in both directions.
- Tow plows: A tow plow is mounted at the rear of the vehicle and pushes snow in the same direction as the front plow. The tow plow and front plow work together to clear a much larger area of snow.
- Rotary plows: Rotary plows are similar to snow blowers. They blow snow off road shoulders to widen space and make room for more snow. Rotary plows can be found in extremely snowy regions around the world.
- Wing plows: Wing plows are smaller plows mounted on the side, designed to increase path width and work efficiency. They are often mounted on the side of a front plow. However, they can also be placed in the middle or rear. A wing plow allows the vehicle to push ice and snow further to the side to clear a wider path. Business owners and government agencies use wing plows because they remove more snow in less time.
- Underbody plows: Underbody plows are mounted under the vehicle and serve to remove packed snow from roads. They can be used with front plows to tackle deep snow or as standalone solutions.
Which plow to choose?
A forklift snow plow is a very useful tool in frequently snowed places in warehouses or other facilities. You should also consider what type of plow you exactly need. You must consider the weight of your vehicle to choose the appropriate plow size. You’ll want to avoid buying a plow that is too big or too small for your forklift to prevent damage to any part of the machine. The allowable front axle load rating of your forklift will guide you in the right direction.

Choose a plow that has the width and angle needed to fulfill your purpose. For example, do you need a commercial plow that offers versatility so you can clear driveways in different settings? If so, consider a V-plow. It’s another matter if you need a plow to clear only a small driveway, then a plow with a straight blade should suffice. Also think about the width of the area you need to clear. If it’s an area about two meters wide, a 200 cm forklift snow plow should do the job.
