Are you wondering what the largest forklift is? We have the answer!
Forklifts are machines with extremely wide applications. Therefore, they are used in many industries as invaluable assistance in warehouses and distribution centers. Forklifts are commonly used there for internal transport. An average forklift, although small in size, has great capabilities and definitely makes work easier. However, there are machines created for greater needs, among which we can mention the world’s largest forklift. What kind of vehicle is this and what capabilities does it offer?
The Largest Forklift — What Kind of Machine Is This and Who Created It?
The world’s largest forklift is an electric vehicle that can lift up to 25 tons. Its load center of gravity can be up to 12000. This forklift is powered by an electric motor of 380 V. The Italian company Lampocar s.r.l. played a major role in this, which had previously been involved in the production of forklifts under the Raniero brand. The project was created in cooperation with FTMH, resulting in the world’s first electric forklift with the above parameters.
However, the originator was the company LA CISA Trasporti Industriali, which commissioned the above companies to manufacture this innovative forklift. The goal was further investment in more ecological logistics. LA CISA Trasporti chose forklift manufacturer Raniero as a partner for good reason. They wanted professional cooperation so that the equipment could be successfully used for transport in the steel mill. The world’s largest forklift has been in use since October 2019 in a steel mill in Padua (northern Italy).
The Largest Forklift — What’s Worth Knowing About This Project?
This machine is part of a project aimed at increasing lifting capacity from 18 to 30 tons with a simultaneous load center of gravity of 1200 mm. The success of this undertaking was not accidental — the forklift was created based on the company’s long and deep experience. They had previously created electric forklifts from 6 to even 25 tons. These were used for transporting: wood, paper, metals, cement, vehicles in the automotive industry, and beverages. They were commonly used in recycling, heavy logistics, as well as terminals and ports.
The largest forklift uses AC technology with a 380 V battery. Thanks to this, the equipment presents satisfactory performance and speed, which can even match forklifts with diesel engines. Moreover, an important issue is trouble-free maneuvering of the forklift, which is ensured by a special steering motor. For many entrepreneurs, an important issue is the reduction of pollution emissions, noise levels, and fuel costs, which naturally leads to significant savings at the end of the working day.
It’s true that electric forklifts are significantly more expensive, especially the world’s largest forklift. However, it turns out that the purchase starts paying for itself in a short time. Thanks to reduced fuel costs, maintenance, and spare parts, we can expect a return after just two years of use. This substantial forklift mentioned in the article, as you can imagine, is not among the cheapest. However, companies that need this type of equipment can count not only on lower costs in the long term, but also faster work execution thanks to greater lifting capacity.
The World’s Largest Forklift — Useful Equipment or a Whim?
Without doubt, we can say that the new series of electric forklifts is a revolution. This type of equipment is increasingly offered in industries where large diesel-powered forklifts previously worked. They could be found in port terminals, steel mills and metallurgy, wind turbine handling, cement plants, and sectors where handling over 20 tons can occur even in continuous cycles.
The project is primarily a demonstration of the possibilities and potential that this manufacturer can offer to improve business and increase client portfolio. It’s also strong proof that a huge electric AC forklift will guarantee the same performance as a similar machine with a diesel engine. However, the most important aspect here is the lower operating costs, which arouses interest among many entrepreneurs.
