Forklifts are the most popular short-distance transport devices that enable free lifting and carrying of loads. They are used in practically every company that deals with logistics processes related to warehousing or cargo handling. Each forklift, in addition to the driving system, drive and steering system, also has a lifting system. The lifting system includes a mast together with a carriage, chains and forks. What types of forklift masts can be distinguished? We will try to answer this question below.

Types of masts for forklifts

There are three types of masts available on the market for forklifts:

  • simplex type mast,
  • duplex type mast,
  • triplex type mast.

What distinguishes the different types of masts in forklifts from each other?

The first of them, the simplex type mast, is a single-piece mast whose construction is based on a single frame, and therefore has quite limited lifting height. It is a simple solution that will work where considerable lifting height is required. In the case of a duplex mast, the carriage is lifted by an extending cylinder located in the inner frame of the vehicle. This is a typical solution for forklifts with greater lifting capacity. The last mentioned, the triplex mast, has two inner frames, making it possible to achieve maximum load lifting height.

In order to properly select a mast for your forklift, you need to answer several important questions, mainly concerning the tasks set for this type of equipment. The most important issue will be to what height we want to lift loads in our warehouse space. To the highest point, you need to add about 15-20 centimeters to provide space above the shelf for the operator, which will allow freedom in picking up and putting down goods.

Types of masts in forklifts – room type

The next issue that must be taken into account when choosing the right mast will be the height of the room in which the selected forklift will work. You also need to consider whether the selected route that the forklift travels daily does not lead through doors where the passage height may be limited. This allows us to properly select the height that the mast should have in the folded state.

Masts in forklifts are very important structural elements of the entire equipment. Their proper selection will therefore enable free flow of goods in the warehouse, safe and comfortable work. To ensure the most optimal use of the forklift, you need to consider the proper selection of the mast. For this to be possible, you need to pay attention to the following issues:

  • easy operation of the device,
  • ensuring adequate visibility for the operator,
  • stable and safe mast mounting,
  • proper lifting height.

As you can see, the types of masts in forklifts depend on several factors, we hope that our article will help you decide on choosing the right type of mast for your forklift.
