When it comes to the construction of manual pallet trucks, it is usually well known. It’s different in the case of combustion engine forklifts and electric ones. What components will we find here? What do we need to know?

However, trainers sometimes limit this information and move straight to the practical part. The fact is that every employee working with this machine should know its construction. Elementary theoretical and practical knowledge about the equipment will help maintain not only comfort, but also safety in the workplace. Modern devices offer many possibilities.

How is a forklift constructed?

Which forklift components are noteworthy? The most important ones are:

• Operator seat – some forklifts do not have a seat and cabin for the operator.
• Safety frame – it is made of steel and can have different shapes, depending on the specific model.
• Engine cover – allows for engine protection and work even in difficult weather conditions.
• Counterweight – its task is to balance the weight of the forklift and the transported goods, so that the forklift does not tip over.
• Forks – these elements have an L-shape. They are designed for lifting and transporting loads.
• Frame – it is made of durable steel.
• Mast – affects the safe lifting, lowering and transporting of goods. It can reach up to several meters in height.
• Front plate of the vehicle – called the carriage. The forks and mast are attached to it.

Besides the above components, we cannot ignore the steering wheel, pedals and levers. They enable efficient control of the device. Some types also have operator roof protection and other amenities that contribute to efficient and comfortable work.

Let’s remember that forklift construction also includes internal components that affect the equipment’s operation. It’s also modern technology that aims to rely on the operation of many systems. The most important systems here are: braking system, drive system, electrical system, power transmission system, lifting system, hydraulic system, and steering system.

An efficient device works flawlessly for a long time. The process of choosing the ideal forklift is often quite a challenge for the customer. We must focus on very good equipment quality, which will give us confidence in reliable operation. Forklift components form a cohesive whole and provide safety to the operator during daily work.
